Kinky the moderator is... joyce?

Elsie Chong (Moderator):
How do you think the design of computers (notebooks and/or desktops) will evolve hereafter? And how do you envision it evolving?

redmummy (Expert):
Thanks Elise :)

Elsie Chong (Moderator):
Q: How do you think the design of computers (notebooks and/or desktops) will evolve hereafter? And how do you envision it evolving?

Kenny Sia (Expert):
May I start off?

Elsie Chong (Moderator):
Yes Kenny, please take ownership of question to answer

Kenny Sia (Expert):
I read an article that in 10 years time, a US1,000 personal computer may surpass the computing abilities of a human being.

Elsie Chong (Moderator):
Go ahead Kenny, I've assigned the question to you

Kenny Sia (Expert):
Apart from the obvious - ie, faster processing power

Kenny Sia (Expert):
one thing we see evolving lately is the environmental aspect of computers

Kenny Sia (Expert):
these days it's quite trendy to have low-powered devices

Kenny Sia (Expert):
less power consumption, means less coals burned, means a greener environment

Kenny Sia (Expert):
i won't be surprise if in the future, we see computers running off a hamster's wheel

Kenny Sia (Expert):
(or more likely, solar power)

Kenny Sia (Expert):
... kenny sia, over.

Kenny Sia (Expert):
........
kenny sia, over?

tgcynthia (Expert):
I'll have to answer Fab's question about music & technology, if that's okay :)

Kenny Sia (Expert):
Q: with technology moving at such a rapid rate, how would you define the future? what kind of event horizon would you be considering as a marker?
A: hmmm

Elsie Chong (Moderator):
Hi Experts, we've got a few questions in queue, would you like to pick up a question to answer?

Elsie Chong (Moderator):
simply take ownership & type away :)

Kenny Sia (Expert):
Q: with technology moving at such a rapid rate, how would you define the future? what kind of event horizon would you be considering as a marker?
A: the problem is

Kenny Sia (Expert):
A: the horizon is always moving ahead

tgcynthia (Expert):
Q: 1. [Cynthia; Joyce] We know you girls are ever so passionate about music. Now we would love to hear your opinion: the marriage of technology and music - Now and the Future.
A: test test

Kinky (Moderator):
i think it's amazing how ppl who have that ear for music but not necessarily the skill in the instrument can compose songs now

using music programs

Kinky (Moderator):
another factor is how music is so widespread the world over thanks to various social media platforms

it's SO easy to find the most random artistes, or sounds that suit your taste

Kinky (Moderator):
no longer is music confined to a few genres but more than one can imagine now

Kenny Sia (Expert):
Q: with technology moving at such a rapid rate, how would you define the future? what kind of event horizon would you be considering as a marker?
A: The future is defined by the little steps we take to reach our goals

tgcynthia (Expert):
It's really amazing that in the past, you can only listen to up to 10-20 songs per casette/CD. That makes the whole album, and we are content with that,

Kenny Sia (Expert):
A: if we are looking for a way to clone humans, first we clone sheeps.

tgcynthia (Expert):
but now, we are complaining about our 2GB ipods that can hold 200 songs,

Kenny Sia (Expert):
A: these are all little milestones that we take to realise the vision of our future

tgcynthia (Expert):
who knows what the future holds with music capacity on our music players?

Kenny Sia (Expert):
Q: are people making a conscious choice to buy 'green' products?
A: not quite the case in malaysia yet

tgcynthia (Expert):
Furthermore, the most amazing thing i think that technology has contributed to the music industry,

tgcynthia (Expert):
is that rare talents are now easier to discover.

Kenny Sia (Expert):
A: here in malaysia, i think we are more concerned about saving money

tgcynthia (Expert):
Take Colbie Cailat, or our very own Zee Avi (i love her to bits btw)

Kenny Sia (Expert):
A: the good thing with going green is that we save money on power, on battery, etc

tgcynthia (Expert):
without the technology of internet, they wouldn't be discovered on Youtube.

tgcynthia (Expert):
That's truly amazing, in my opinion

Kenny Sia (Expert):
A: more computers these days are too powerful for our day-to-day use anyways. getting a low-powered 'green' computer seems like a sensible choice in saving electricity bills

tgcynthia (Expert):
ok done! Sorry for fighting the space with you, Kenny, hmm

redmummy (Expert):
the design of the laptop or PC specifically internal or external

Kinky (Moderator):
it means bringing your craziest imagination to reality

redmummy (Expert):
like we spoke during the forum the other nite, if current design is quite bulky and heavy

redmummy (Expert):
mbe the future design will be more thinner

redmummy (Expert):
i m answering fab's question anw

redmummy (Expert):
donno y it doesnt appear A on my column but just go ahead lar

Kenny Sia (Expert):
Q: Nicholas Negroponte had a vision of one laptop per child in the Future, but in your opinion, should we have focused on providing them more pressing needs like agricultural knowledge, things more relevant to their way of life rather than imposing something as culturally groundbreaking like the Internet? Surely even Google can't fix world poverty.
A: Google ain't Jesus.

redmummy (Expert):
ok back to fab's quest, so the thinner or lighter like me as a hbag collector, i m sure i wanna carry hbag with the lappy right

A: of course, computer knowledge is gonna be a giant leap for children from the poorer parts of the globe

Kinky (Moderator):
centuries ago nobody would imagine life so dependant on a pc or tv

and who knows, maybe in the future humans could not imagine life without, say, a pc embedded in their brain

like what you see in movies

redmummy (Expert):
so mbe the future design will come out with unexpected design for now but for future the lappy as hbag too

redmummy (Expert):
zool...give your question if u have any non technical quest pls...happy to assist

redmummy (Expert):
Q: What does "future of design" mean to you?
A: testing for a while

redmummy (Expert):
A: i typed the answers already, pls scroll up :)

Of course, giving them a computer may seem like a giant leap for children from the poorer parts of the globe. But it's a sensible thing to do. The internet can reach places where books and experts can't. There's a wealth of information on agriculture on the internet that these people can access and improve their lifestyle.

redmummy (Expert):
Q: How about the price of lappy? I know you will recommend HP.. How about others ?
A: u mean u want us to recommend other brands, well since i m an HP user, shall we talk bout HP first, what do u think zool? u hv HP lappy or pc ody? u wanna try one of HP or hv one too?

tgcynthia (Expert):
Q: I heard about the concept of digital 3D printing. and in that same vein. Doctors today are 3D creating organs using DNA cells and printing / mapping it out. is this the future of Life?
A: I sure hope not. But with technological advancements improving at an alarming rate, it kind of gives "nothing's impossible" a whole new meaning. To a certain extent,

Kenny Sia (Expert):
Q: Richard Benson, has launch Virgin Galactic. Is this the Future? will we one day go to mars. We have move a long way from the days of Blade Runner's vision of the future. What is that future of our life that way we know it?
A: Intergalactic travel are stuff from science fiction novels that seem to be slowly turning into reality. We cannot tell if the future will look like Blade Runner, or I, Robot or Termination Salvation even Wall-E. But hopefully it doesn't deviate too much from the life we know now.

redmummy (Expert):
Q: Kak Red: Since you're the only one who's married here, I'm afraid you're going have to take on this question: Tell us how technology innovations have complemented your family life + activities. Is there a computing experience which your family partakes in together, and perhaps you would like to share that with everyone here?
A: well yes, we the red family hv our own PC and laptop, even the kids too.

redmummy (Expert):
A: while i m doing this chat online, they are infront of me with their laptops, even the husband is next to me with his own lappy too

redmummy (Expert):
A: of cos they use the internet for games, smtimes for studying la now is school break, totally break lor kan

tgcynthia (Expert):
Q: I heard about the concept of digital 3D printing. and in that same vein. Doctors today are 3D creating organs using DNA cells and printing / mapping it out. is this the future of Life?
A: To a certain extent, of course technology is part and parcel of today and the future's medical advancements, but to say that technology might totally wipe out human life next time, that technology can be used to create "Life" or a clone of some sort?

Kenny Sia (Expert):
Q: I just have clone PC only.
A: ya i know. easier right.

redmummy (Expert):
A: but we as parent specially me mom applied the concept of wikipedia for kids meaning learn from internet, but monitor and filter which sites suitable for them

redmummy (Expert):
A: of cos playing games r fun for them but they can only touch the lappy for restricted time

redmummy (Expert):
Q: Kak red - so what computing experience which your family partakes in together, and perhaps you would like to share that with everyone here?
A: oh just answered this together in your prev question

redmummy (Expert):
Q: I really hope I get some laptop.. But not enough money now..
A: then u shud join the contest by HP

redmummy (Expert):
A: hv u surfed the hp's site on blog a trend contest? grab it kinky....free lappy to be given away by HP

Kinky (Moderator):
Q: I am interesting to know what you all think about the Future of Reality TV.
A: i think for every trend that one can foresee, my answer is to > let your imagination run crazy

reality tv > a camera affixed to their heads? you never know!

or even crazier... something affixed to their minds so ppl know what they're thinking when something happens

redmummy (Expert):
ask the questions in the question manager korang oi, dont ask here, we wont answer

redmummy (Expert):
ops sorry

tgcynthia (Expert):
Q: how about an internet-accessing chip in the brain? talk about being able to access information anyway, anytime...
A: We touched on this topic at the HP Future Is event last week :p apparently it will be made possible soon to transfer your thoughts directly onto the computer, rendering the keyboard useless,

Kenny Sia (Expert):
Q: @Kennysia: Noted on the wealth of information online. But even with the wealth of information online, children in Ethopia wouldn't be able to order the latest Britney Spears album off Amazon. Are we then perpetuating a global way of life putting technology above cultural sensitivity?
A: I'm not advocating giving a laptop to a children in Ethiopia and not teaching them how to use it. All children deserve the right to access education, and that includes education on how to use a computer to enrich their knowledge, which should in turn enrich their lives. I look at computers as a fishing rod, teaching the children how to fish. So tht in the future, when they grow up, they may be able to use that knowledge to enrich the lives of themselves and those of their generation. That said, I'm not sure which is the bigger tragedy. Children in Ethiopia. Or Britney Spears.

redmummy (Expert):
Q: how they pick the winner (free lappy)?
A: the details r in the site, we will come out wt the details too in our own blog soon

redmummy (Expert):

Kenny Sia (Expert):
Q: now that we have lappy, wifi, mobile....etc to ease everyone daily chores... information gathering and socializing... what do you think will be next for our digital natives? shoes as a communication tool? maybe?
A: Don't we now have Nike+ iPod for our shoes? By implanting a chip into our shoes, we have knowledge on how far, how fast we run.

redmummy (Expert):
Q: I've surf on the website.. Can blog in Malay? Look interesting
A: napa pulak tak boleh blog in malay, see i m writing in malay ni. cakap melayu pun boleh jadi blog fofular yerrr

Kenny Sia (Expert):
Q: Do you think technology a friend or foe in our battle against global warming?

JayD (Expert):
question for the experts on the near future...have you checked out Windows 7 yet? wondering what your thoughts are esp. on laptop?

redmummy (Expert):
Q: how about an internet-accessing chip in the brain? talk about being able to access information anyway, anytime...
A: this is like a surrogates ehehehhe, what la put the chip in the brain, then we live in the cold room, n get our robot to act on our behalf, cant take it lar...

redmummy (Expert):
A: i wont survive during that time but donno la my future grandchildren.. :)

Kenny Sia (Expert):
Q: Saving the oceans and water. and global warming lead to the destruction of life in the sea. The distruption of balance. Water is the being of life. Where you find water you know life exits. the 70% of the human body is water.
A: Going green or blue - it's all about preventing ourselves from excessively wasting, isn't it?

redmummy (Expert):
Q: mana tau. contest in english only..
A: they didnt say that we should write an entry in english or malay, you can always try mar...i ve been known as a malay writer , they still pick me even i m writing in malay

redmummy (Expert):
A: i even won few contests though i m writing in malay, so dont think HP will make an issue on your writing in bahasa or english

Kenny Sia (Expert):
Q: Moving towards the Future, with information moving as rapidly as it is now, in your opinion, what would be the next tipping point for written communication vis-a-vis email/snailmail?
A: We went from snail mail -> telegraph -> phone -> fax -> handphone -> email -> sms -> msn -> the next tipping point is to find a way to combine all these.

Kenny Sia (Expert):
eg Google Wave

redmummy (Expert):
Q: what do you think the future is for bloggers? years back we've never thought that blogging can give you the opportunity you are getting now.
A: yes that s correct..10 yrs ago, i wud never knw that i m gonna be a blogger, u got it right, n for the future is for bloggers

redmummy (Expert):
A: ...hemmm

Kenny Sia (Expert):
Q: question for the experts on the near future...have you checked out Windows 7 yet? wondering what your thoughts are esp. on laptop?
A: I can't say I explored it beyond its sexy interface. :( other experts might wanna take this question.

redmummy (Expert):

Kenny Sia (Expert):
Q: there are so many methods of communication - if you can choose one form of communication and nothing else, which one would it be?

tgcynthia (Expert):
Q: question for the experts on the near future...have you checked out Windows 7 yet? wondering what your thoughts are esp. on laptop?
A: Same here, Kenny. After the event that night, i opened the box to see the stunning sleek laptop... but i promised myself i wouldnt explore it til after exams. Which ended today at 7pm :) Redmummy mentioned she's using it right now!

Elsie Chong (Moderator):
Gentle reminder that we have 10 mins to go before this chat session ends, please send take the opportunity to send in your questions

redmummy (Expert):
Q: I really hope I get some laptop.. But not enough money now..
A: tot i answered this question ody....

Kinky (Moderator):
Q: Moving towards the Future, with information moving as rapidly as it is now, in your opinion, what would be the next tipping point for written communication vis-a-vis email/snailmail?
A: already many are checking their emails on their mobiles while on the go. i think this just has to increase more rapidly for everyone to be on the same speed. Twitter is a great example of fast news in less characters.

redmummy (Expert):
pheyyy

Kenny Sia (Expert):
Q: there are so many different methods of communication - if you can choose one form of communication and nothing else, which one would it be? Phone / Fax / SMS / Email / MSN / Facebook / Twitter

tgcynthia (Expert):
Q: how about v-long? will it be the new method of blogging since it's kinda easy and more realistic?
A: Video-blog you mean? Well it's been around for quite awhile already. Some bloggers have tried it out, but i dont think it's quite catching on.

redmummy (Expert):
Q: how about v-long? will it be the new method of blogging since it's kinda easy and more realistic?
A: u mean v-log rite?

redmummy (Expert):
Q: how to make blogging fun when your life is not fun enough?
A: u dont hv fun life meh? aiya....everybody should appreciate their life, we live once only. surely u r having fun life but u dont feel it coz u think / u set in your mind that other ppl hv a wonderful and fun life

Kenny Sia (Expert):
Q: HP has re-invented the lifestyle computer trend since their "Computer is Personal" campaign, in your opinion, what do you think is the dichotomy of the computing lifestyle?
A: actually my computing lifestyle is kinda blurred. i use the same laptop for my personal stuff, my work and my blogging. i can't separate the two. HP's "Computer Is Personal" campaign is set in the context that for a long time, malwares and viruses and big corporates have been forcing you to use your computer in a way that you don't want to. But these days we have a choice - whether is PC or Mac, Microsoft or Linux, Kenny Sia or JoyceTheFairy.

redmummy (Expert):
A: no matter what u did, doesnt matter if u think it s not fun, just explore it and blog bout it

redmummy (Expert):
A: it may sound not fun to you but to readers, they have diff perception

redmummy (Expert):
A: trust me on that, been there done that

redmummy (Expert):
Q: what time do you prefer to blog?
A: at nite

redmummy (Expert):
Q: yeah. vlog. sorry for the typo. hee
A: frankly speaking, i dont really like the idea of v log for myself, i know it s a trend but i m not really keen on it

Kenny Sia (Expert):
Q: Final question, James Cameron has be hailed as the king of sci-fi story telling. With the launch of the new film AVATAR. the reminds me of second life. What do you all think of AVATARS. it is part and parcel of digital communication today.
A: Sorry I can't comment since I have yet to watched Avatar. But James Cameron is more of a story-teller, not quite a visionary. I do agree however, that people act different online and offline.

redmummy (Expert):
A: mbe coz of uploading it is taking lots of time and some more wt lots of entries that i need to write everyday, it s quite an hassle for me,but

redmummy (Expert):
A: but there s a but

redmummy (Expert):
A: mbe for future is VLOG's simplest way will come out wt the easiest steps, who knows

redmummy (Expert):
A: n mbe from blogger i will turn tod vlogger

redmummy (Expert):
A: eh got vlogger meh?

redmummy (Expert):
A: :)

redmummy (Expert):

Elsie Chong (Moderator):
Good Night ALL!!!

Kenny Sia (Expert):
Q: I heard about the concept of digital 3D printing. and in that same vein. Doctors today are 3D creating organs using DNA cells and printing / mapping it out. is this the future of Life?
A: it's the future of studying medicine. but i can think of using 3D to create more interesting body parts than organs.
